For Bishop Leon Benjamin, prayer is not just a religious thing.
“Prayer is a governmental power. It’s just as powerful as the legislative branch that we call Congress,” he said during the Aug. 1 episode of his program “B-Alert News” on Brighteon.TV. “It’s called ‘decreeing a thing’ or ‘declaring a thing.’ So our prayer is even more [powerful].”
The congressional candidate and senior pastor of New Life Harvest Church in Virginia said people need to understand more than ever that God hears prayers. Elaborating on his earlier point, Benjamin said prayer is a legislative power that Heaven has given to believers. This power, he added, is granted by God and His Kingdom. According to the pastor, Jesus comes from a different type of government. God the Father, the Heavenly King, sent His son Jesus Christ – also a king – to fix a world turned upside down by Satan.
Given this, Benjamin said America is about to experience a collision between the spiritual and natural worlds – thanks to the power of prayer coming from consecrated people.
When people understand the power of a legislative decision granted from Heaven, it brings greater implications, he added. Thus, people need to commit their trust, energy and decision making process and give it over to the Lord to do the right thing.
The Brighteon.TV host also emphasized the importance of fasting on his program. When paired with prayer, fasting returns people back to their original state of legislative ability – which is to call, decree and declare the Word and Will of God.
Benjamin cited the book of the Prophet Daniel, where he “mourned for three weeks, ate no choice food … and used no lotions until the three weeks were over.” At the end of the fasting period, Daniel became purified and saw a vision.
Fasting is refusing to consume food for voluntary or religious reasons, but the pastor said it is not limited to a religious thing. True fasting, just like what the prophet performed, causes a believer to consume every word of God – which is pure and converts a person’s soul.
The pastor said that when people pray and fast, they are acknowledging what God is able to do. Once He receives the prayer and returns His word, the believer must now do what God says. In essence, someone who is fasting and praying on his knees will be moved to stand up and act.
Lastly, Benjamin said that fasting results in people being set apart for God – much like the Prophet Daniel. He optimistically remarked that God is about to set America apart again, and individuals in the nation will be set apart for a work that He has called them to do.
